The City by the Bay played host to VMware’s Partner Exchange 2014, where more than 4,000 VMware technology and reseller partners and more than 90 sponsors and exhibitors gathered from Feb. 8 – Feb. 13. Conference sessions ranged from boot camps and workshops that covered VMware’s solutions in-depth to general sessions and keynotes focusing on the cloud, end-user computing and VMware’s strategic vision for 2014. One of Wednesday’s keynotes, was led by AirWatch CEO John Marshall. Here’s a video of the keynote sessions.

Marshall spoke about the building blocks that have helped make AirWatch the company it is today. “When we started, we knew that it was going to be more than just the MDM,” said Marshall. “We started with apps and we built capabilities to deploy applications through app catalogs, app wrapping and SDKs to effectively get apps out to the enterprise.” AirWatch continued to innovate, especially in the file sync and share category to meet the needs of customers. Marshall explains, “We built Secure Content Locker to securely link up to SharePoint and internal infrastructures in order to get content securely down to the device.” Marshall then highlighted other solutions such as mobile email management and the AirWatch containerization solution AirWatch Workspace.

Marshall, who founded AirWatch along with Chairman Alan Dabbiere in 2003, spoke about the journey to finding and building a team that was dedicated to becoming the leader in enterprise mobility. ”We built a team that woke up every day [asking] how we move forward and how we can move our customers forward with their mobile initiatives,” Marshall said.

VMware announced its intentions to purchase AirWatch for $1.54B early this year. Marshall touched on the future of AirWatch as a VMware company. “Together, we can change how companies do business.”
