At the VMware Business Mobility event on June 9, Sundhar Annamalai announced that AirWatch customers who have implemented BYOD initiatives can now gain greater visibility of their telecom costs. This capability enables enterprises to care for business oriented data usage on their employees’ personal AT&T devices, in addition to offering a second business voice line available on any smartphone or tablet, regardless of connectivity (e.g. cellular or Wi-Fi) or carrier.
The solution helps organizations separate personal and corporate voice, and data and messaging usage. An AT&T mobility-led approach allows organizations to separate personal from corporate data to make costs more predictable and to avoid manual expense report processes. The details of the AirWatch and AT&T integration are organized into two phases.
The first phase of the integration is now available for purchase through AT&T. Customers are able to purchase a data plan from AT&T that allows IT to add a defined data allotment for employees with BYOD devices – just like an employer-owned device. In collaboration with AirWatch Telecom Expense Management (TEM) and AT&T Work Platform capabilities, AirWatch can display corporate data usage for apps leveraging the AirWatch SDK. The TEM console provides IT administrators the data usage per employee, which provides greater insight into how much data IT should provide to their employees. The availability of the data aims to help offset any business data related expenses, and to cover the employee’s voice data costs. AirWatch TEM management is currently part of the yellow and orange bundles.
For phase two, AT&T and AirWatch are working to enable enhancements to the split-billing solution that will allow organizations to provide data plans for employee BYOD devices for business usage for designated applications. Phase two is planned to have AT&T Work Voice as a second business line to be part of AirWatch SDK, where administrators can also track business calls usage. This continued integration is targeted to happen later this year.
