There is no lack of information out there on bring-your-own-device (BYOD) programs.
A quick Google search of “BYOD” yields over SIX MILLION results. The majority of the entries are related to the technical and privacy considerations that IT admins need to take into account when implementing a corporate program, such as:
- What types of devices and operating systems will you support?
- What rules and privacy policies you will enforce?
- What apps will you make available to your end users?
But what happens after that? Your company execs are on board, your policies are set, you’ve prepared the infrastructure and your support teams are trained and ready to go.
This is what I call the “last mile” in a BYOD implementation. The most important step, but the least written about, leaving IT admins wondering what to do next.
In the transportation industry, the “last mile” refers to the final leg in the delivery chain, and it’s no different for BYOD. How does an IT team deliver the value and the benefits of BYOD to their company employees?
As much as we wish it was, this is typically not a “if you build it, they will come” situation.
It’s important to keep in mind that what may be a good benefit for your IT team might not be a good message for the end user. Words like “control,” “management” and “restrictions” generally do not sit well with people when referring to their personal property.
BYOD requires end-user education, awareness and promotion to be truly successful.
The Last Mile: User Adoption & Engagement
VMware AirWatch’s new BYOD Adoption Kit is designed to help you boost adoption and engagement during the last deployment phase. Created as a turnkey “campaign in a box,” the kit gives IT admins a step-by-step guide for running a two-month activation campaign of Workspace ONE and AirWatch on employee-owned devices.
The messaging in this campaign is focused on “enablement,” “access” and “productivity,” bringing the employee benefits to light immediately.
With assets from email communications, posters and table tents to infographics, presentations and FAQs, the BYOD Adoption Kit is ready to be used now. You can also customize the kit to fit your company branding and wording preferences.
Don’t lose steam on following through on the last mile for successful implementation. Delivering value to end users will drive adoption and engagement, which adds up to program success.
