AirWatch Partner Profile: Aerohive Networks

Aerohive and AirWatch provide streamlined enterprise network access and management

Unless you’re on the team running the network, it’s hard to appreciate just what it takes to achieve network connectivity across devices and across locations. So says Aerohive Networks, a provider of unified wired and wireless network solutions including Wi-Fi access points, routers and switches. Through a new partnership with AirWatch, Aerohive is furthering that mission by simplifying one of the fastest-growing network access methods: mobile devices.

Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Aerohive provides Wi-Fi access point solutions based on an innovative distributed architecture to suit different types of enterprise workplaces.  Aerohive’s Wi-Fi access points run on an advanced HiveOS operating system, which is integrated with AirWatch’s enterprise mobility management solution.

The integrated solution enables customers to seamlessly onboard mobile devices in their enterprises, whether they are corporate-owned or employee-owned, with an automated profile-based enrollment, authentication and secured access to corporate resources.

“The partnership with AirWatch has been a fantastic synergistic relationship from day one,” said Aerohive senior marketing manager Sreekanth Kannan in an interview last month at AirWatch Connect Atlanta. “If you look at the product portfolio and the solutions that we offer, we are very complementary in nature.”

Here’s the full video interview.

Traditionally, administrators have had to rely on corporate policy to enforce secure network access via MDM. But with AirWatch and Aerohive, administrators can create an automated compliance rule. Aerohive automatically identifies any unmanaged devices that are attempting to access the network and redirects them to the AirWatch MDM enrollment page, where AirWatch prompts them to enroll in order to gain secure access. With this solution in place, IT administrators can be sure each mobile device in the network is accessing corporate data securely.

“We have a lot of customers that find the joint value proposition between Aerohive and AirWatch to be a compelling benefit for them. It’s a natural fit,” Kannan said.

Case in point: Recently, a large school district came to Aerohive with 50,000 mobile devices that needed secure network access. Aerohive had previously deployed multiple access points across campus, primarily for students with laptops in classrooms and dorms. When the school wanted to add secure access for their new fleet of mobile devices, “they chose AirWatch as their preferred partner for the MDM solution,” Kannan said. With Aerohive’s Cloud-managed console, Hive Manager, integrated with AirWatch EMM cloud portal, IT administrators can deploy unified policies for multiple user groups, device types, locations and time of the day. “Today they are happy customers and sing only praises,” Kannan said.

AirWatch and Aerohive both offer cloud-based management consoles. Aerohive’s Hive Manager shows all network access points and their operational statuses from a central console. Similarly, AirWatch shows all mobile devices in the environment in a web-based console.  Both companies are working closely to integrate their solution further to automate the workflow of mobile device onboarding and management for increased IT efficiency and reduced security risk.

“We are taking the partnership to the next level…when customers talk to Aerohive or AirWatch, they will hear a seamless story between the two companies,” Kannan said.
