AirWatch has launched a new Mobile Email Management solution – AirWatch Inbox for iOS, a containerized email client that separates enterprise email from personal email on mobile devices (read the press release here). AirWatch Inbox, which is also available for Android, offers a native-like experience that is consistent across both platforms.
AirWatch Inbox provides an alternative to managing and securing the native iOS and Android email clients that come pre-loaded on devices. Deploying enterprise email in a separate container adds a new layer of data security by requiring passcode entry for access.
To determine whether your business would be better served with native email client management or a separate email container, consider your industry requirements, use cases and ownership models.
AirWatch Inbox can help organizations in highly regulated industries such as healthcare and finance meet stringent security and privacy requirements, such as HIPAA. AirWatch Inbox offers advanced encryption to comply with these requirements, as well as the ability to disable access or remotely wipe corporate email from compromised devices. On the back end, it gives IT administrators advanced data loss prevention (DLP) capabilities, which include preventing the forwarding of emails, restricting attachment size as well as requiring attachments to open in Secure Content Locker and ensuring hyperlinks only open in the AirWatch Browser. Administrators can also disable copy and paste functions and prevent HTML content with AirWatch Inbox.
AirWatch Inbox gives users access corporate email, contacts and calendar in the same application.
Organizations that operate in less regulated industries or that don’t need advanced DLP security features will likely find that management of native email clients through AirWatch is a practical option. This option offers the advantage of the true native experience for users along with basic Mobile Email Management controls such as authentication, and limited DLP policies.
Use Cases and Ownership Models
AirWatch Inbox can be deployed to managed or unmanaged devices through the secure AirWatch Workspace container. The email client provides an effective solution for BYOD or CYOD deployments as well as for contractors, board members and others in the extended enterprise.
AirWatch Inbox can also be deployed on managed devices upon enrollment into MDM, as an added security barrier that requires a passcode for access. Administrators can set requirements for complex passcodes that require more than four digits or complex characters, for example.
AirWatch Inbox is available on Apple iOS and Android devices at $1 per device per month with maintenance included or a one-time fee of $20 per device with an annual maintenance fee of $4 per device.
