Multinational bank transitions to a multi-OS mobile environment

  • By

Brasil Plural, a full-service bank with three offices in Brazil and an affiliate in New York, N.Y., recently offered employees across locations a mobile device upgrade.

In response to employee demand in 2013, Brasil Plural’s IT leaders began searching for a solution that would enable a seamless migration to a multi-OS mobile deployment, without interrupting employees’ access to email and corporate information.

The bank’s leadership team was also looking for ways to cut costs. “We researched all the vendors who were listed in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant report,” said Carlos Santiago, Brasil Plural’s IT infrastructure coordinator. Santiago and his team compared vendors by price, variety of devices supported, ease of use and the number of applications each offered.

AirWatch, which supports all mobile device types, includes a user-friendly console and self-service portal and offers a full suite of enterprise mobility management solutions, won Brasil Plural’s business. Santiago says AirWatch’s simple Active Directory integration and responsive support team tipped the ballot in favor of AirWatch.

Brasil Plural employees are now issued iPhones for their corporate devices. And through a new BYOD program, employees who are not issued corporate devices can use their personal Android or iOS devices to connect to corporate networks. Many employees who previously carried both personal and corporate devices have chosen to lighten their pockets by choosing the BYOD option.

“We allow the use of employee-owned devices due to the request of some users” who don’t want to carry two devices. “Today, we save [on both] device purchases and telecom costs.”

IT reports that AirWatch makes it easier to add applications to users’ devices, check system versions and set management policies. In the future, Santiago and his team will explore building secure, custom internal apps with the AirWatch SDK.
