SoftBank Telecom now offers AirWatch EMM in Japan

  • Lanier Norville By

Japanese telecommunications provider SoftBank Telecom announced Wednesday in a press release that it will offer AirWatch Enterprise Mobility Management to its customers. Softbank, whose parent company owns a large share in Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba, will link its own cloud and network services with AirWatch.

AirWatch can interoperate with SoftBank Telecom’s services, such as remote access, as well as with customers’ existing systems. This interoperability enables automatic VPN connectivity, so users don’t have to enter their credentials to connect to enterprise resources, as well as support for Microsoft’s Active Directory. Active Directory integration enables administrators to take advantage of existing groups to manage users and devices. SoftBank Telecom provides hosting of the relay server that links with Active Directory.

The announcement highlights AirWatch’s growth in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region, where the user conference AirWatch Connect Sydney has just come to a close. In Australia, the analyst firm Frost & Sullivan recently named AirWatch MDM a “champion” in its Industry Quotient report. Last month, AirWatch ASEAN director Edwin Lee spoke at FutureGov Malaysia about leveraging EMM in local government organizations.

Here’s what SoftBank and AirWatch company leaders had to say about Wednesday’s announcement.

John Marshall, Senior Vice President and General Manger, AirWatch:
