Mobile technology’s role on Black Friday

Mobile devices extend the point of sale — that all-important moment for retailers when money changes hands — to locations store owners never would’ve dreamed just a few years ago.   Pop-up stores are taking the point of sale further and further away from the traditional storefront, oftentimes to locations where retailers must rely on mobile devices to swipe customers’ credit cards. Delta flight attendants are using mobile to complete in-flight transactions at 30,000 feet.. And on Black Friday this year, retailers will embrace mobile to both take the transaction away from the traditional cash register and add additional transaction points. More points of sale add up to shorter lines, added transactions and fewer frustrated customers on the busiest shopping day of the year.
