Chrome Live webinar addresses security in the browser and enterprise functionality

  • Maddie Cook By

Chrome is no longer just a browser, or a car color.

Yesterday Google hosted a Chrome Live session where the company presented several new product announcements. Google shared its plans for both Google for Work and Chrome for Work and how it aims to meet enterprise mobility needs. AirWatch integration with Android for Work helps address security and device management concerns that Google spoke of throughout the presentation.

The event began with an introduction from Amit Singh, President of Google for Work. Singh summarized the evolution of applications, beginning with Windows applications, transitioning to browser applications and landing in the current industry stage of mobile applications. These new Google innovations and features will bolster its integration with AirWatch and VMware and will continue to influence the era of mobile applications and virtualization.

With the onset of Chromebook popularity, Google presented its customer use cases and success stories with Chromebooks. Chromebooks have been particularly popular in the education sector and Google is looking to expand its presence in this arena to promote laptop management. The recent AirWatch 8 release includes Chromebook laptop management features. With AirWatch, IT administrators can blacklist and whitelist apps and websites on Chrome OS, assign apps and bookmarks and use remote assistance to enable remote view for IT and employees.

During the session, Google shared more details of Chrome for Work. Chrome is becoming more than just a browser in the workspace, having become a main driving force for Google’s device, the Chromebook. The dynamics for an Internet browser have grown over the years and the need to address its security has become a concern for Google and the IT administrator. Within mobility, Google also announced that it is working to improve the mobile interaction with the Chrome mobile app and to standardize across different OSes.
