In the recent report, “The Global Market for Enterprise Mobility Management” VDC research firm analyzes EMM vendors that are paving the way for the future of the EMM marketplace. As one of the VDC-defined Tier 1 vendors on the list, the report ranks AirWatch by VMware as a top performer in the market and EMM vendor with the largest market share, as pictured above.
Throughout the report, authors Eric Klein, director and David Krebs, executive vice president of VDC Research discuss trends in the market and initiatives that EMM organizations are taking that allow them to stand out from others. The report categorizes vendors in Tier 1 based on their product availability in application development tools, split billing, secure browsing and email.
The report lists unified endpoint management (UEM) and identity management as key findings that define the EMM marketplace. In the report, Klein and Krebs observe that vendors who want to stay competitive should develop products that will embrace security and UEM. VMware Identity Manager is referenced as a product that encompasses both of these features. The report says, “As a mobile-first ISV, AirWatch’s foray into the UEM is particularly impressive. The company has quickly achieved very strong platform support capabilities for the Chrome and QNX operating systems, as well as for heavy operating systems such as Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X.”
The report expands on VMware Identity Manager, and says that it will be “a key battleground going forward.” It says that VMware is a leader in identity management, thanks to current infrastructure and security settings built into VMware’s software architecture.
In addition to spotlighting Identity Manager, the report also shares the above graph. AirWatch has 16 percent of the EMM market share, the largest percentage of the vendors in the report.
Throughout the report, it is suggested that the vendors who are leading with a mobile-first strategy are going to benefit in the long run. This week, VMworld 2015 begins and leads with the mission to deliver innovations for organizations to develop any applications on any device.
In the below video, Sanjay Poonen and Noah Wasmer outline the VMware strategy that aligns with VDC Research’s recommendation to concentrate on UEM and multi-platform security.
In analyst reports published earlier this year, other AirWatch products and strategy have also been recognized. Earlier in August, 451 Research released a report detailing the new VMware Collaboration Bundle. The bundle combines AirWatch Content Locker, Socialcast and AirWatch Video to provide content and file sync and share solutions.
In June, Gartner released the 2015 Magic Quadrant results as well as the Critical Capabilities for Enterprise Mobility Management Suites report. Both reports positioned AirWatch positively. In the 2015 Magic Quadrant, Gartner positioned AirWatch as a “leader” in the EMM market, and positioned AirWatch highest on the ability to execute axis for the third consecutive year. In the Critical Capabilities report, AirWatch received the top score for the Global Enterprise Deployment use case, reflecting 1 of 6 use cases.
Also in the IDC: “Worldwide Enterprise Mobility Management Software Market Shares 2014” report, the analyst firm announced that AirWatch holds the largest EMM market share of all EMM vendors.
