Recently, Gartner released the 2017 Gartner Critical Capabilities for Enterprise Mobility Management Suites report. This report evaluates critical capabilities of enterprise mobility management (EMM) vendors based on their ability to support a wide range of platforms and advanced features. VMware received the highest scores in three of six total use cases, including:
- Unified Endpoint Management (UEM)
General-Purpose Use Case
In the report, the general-purpose use case centers around scalability and a complete set of capabilities. As enterprise mobility management becomes a more established IT operations technology, global organizations will manage their environments centrally.
VMware AirWatch is a functionally complete EMM offering with an easy administrator user experience and intuitive interfaces. Our architecture and multitenancy make it very scalable, whether managing 10,000 users or 100,000 devices.
Unified Endpoint Management Use Case
According to Gartner, organizations want a single interface to manage all devices, including laptops and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. This use case looks at the vendor support for mobile device management (MDM) functions, as well as traditional client management functionality, and weighs client management, IoT and device configuration and management most heavily.
AirWatch is built to manage any endpoint, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, ruggedized and purpose-built devices, printers, wearables and IoT devices across all major operating systems in a single management console. With new capabilities for Windows 10 and macOS and the expansion into IoT with VMware Pulse IoT Center, which leverages AirWatch EMM technology and extended functionality to support a wide range of IoT edge systems and connected devices, VMware continues to expand use cases and devices supported.
Cloud-Centric Use Case
Gartner defines this use case as the need for IT to control specific user and device access, as well as be able to offer functionality, such as single sign-on (SSO), as users transition to using cloud-based services. According to Gartner:
“IT also wants to minimize potential data loss from these systems. This use case looks at MDM and mobile identity functionality, as well as integration with third-party IAM and Identity-as-a-Service (IDaaS) solutions. Additional controls, such as DLP and CASB functionality, were also weighted as part of this use case.”
VMware offers VMware Workspace ONE, which includes VMware’s identity and access management (IAM), software-defined networking (SDN) products and AirWatch as a single, combined solution. Workspace ONE is an integrated platform built on AirWatch unified endpoint management technology. It enables IT to empower their employees with a digital workspace that enables them to use the right technology (apps and devices), whether provided by the company or bring your own, to successfully meet business goals without compromising IT security needs.
This report builds on the recent 2017 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Mobility Management Suites, where VMware was recognized as a leader for the seventh consecutive year, and positioned both highest in ability to execute and furthest in completeness of vision for the second year in a row.
